NEW TRICKS from a forgotten post

This is a post I found in my drafts that I had thought I had posted way back in 2011!  So in honor of my precious Mistaya and our dear Maggie, I am going to post it now.  I still miss my sweet girls every day.

Sometimes you just can't teach old dogs new tricks.
But we found that sometimes it is even harder to teach a young dog new tricks.

Let me explain.
In Montana, one of Mistaya's favorite things to do was to try to 'kill' the water that came out of the hose.
Because she would try so hard to bite and chew the stream of water that we learned to place a large plant pot tray under the stream of water.  During her chewing she would tear up a lot of grass causing ugly bare spots in our lawn.

It did appear that Mistaya was trying to explain to Maggie how the sport of biting and chewing a stream of water actually works.

Maggie did seem to try really hard to understand what this game was all about.

She gave it a real brave try.....

She lunged at the spraying water...
She tried watching for a second...

She tried lunging at it...

She couldn't figure out what Mistaya was doing...or why she was doing it.

Finally, Maggie stopped and just watched...still very puzzled why Mistaya would want to fight with a stream of water.

BRRRR, it is getting colder here!

Yes, Little Willow says she doesn't like this cold weather we are having now that it is November. She loves to sleep on top anything available!!

In 6 days Willow will already be 2 and 1/2 years old. The days are passing so quickly now that we all seem to be so happy.  It is strange how that happens. Willow is such a wonderful apartment pup and a joy to all the 150 residents living in this building with us.  She is such a sweet dog!

I KNOW WHAT I WANT!!

This is what happens when humans do not pay attention to a demanding little pup like me.  I will start stacking all my toys on their feet until they notice what I have done. Then I usually get just what I want...for them to start throwing my toys so I can chase them into the kitchen where I  run real fast and slide on the smooth floor all the way to my toy. Then I race back to them so they can throw a toy again.
Yes, this can go on all day!!!

We had a lot of beautiful sunshine today so I spent most of my time following the sun puddles around the livingroom.

We have had a lot of heavy rain this month so I am taking advantage of every sunny moment that comes thru our front window.

And I think it is just about time mom and I took a nice long walk down to the water so I can chase sticks and little stones out into the water. But mom is trying to tell me that it is to cold to play in the ocean water and that I must wait till the air is much warmer.  But mom...the sun is shinning!!!

LITTLE WILLOW IS GROWING UP!

I discovered that because we spend everyday with our Little Willow we thought that she had not grown much.  I found a photo I had taken of her the day she came home with us. I was then able to try to copy the photo of how she looks now.

Yes, she certainly has grown a bit in the last 5 months. But I must say her heart has grown far more than her body.
And fortunately she still fits in her doggie bed just fine!

Thank you for joining our family Willow, we love you to the moon and back!!

I AM A SNOW DOG!!

It was so pretty as the snow was coming down last night. This morning when I  went out the apartment building door I came to a instant halt.  My first snow was a puzzle to me. But mom threw a few snowballs for me to chase and I decided the snow was great! It would be nice if this was our one and only storm for the season. Well, a girl can hope and dream can't she????

I was real happy to get back to my warm home and I immediately headed to my  favorite warm blanket and my HogDog toy to warm myself up after my snowball chasing adventure.

MY NEW BED FOR NAPS

I have found the very best place to take one of my many daily naps. It has a great view from my 4th story home, and it sometimes has a lot of sunshine.

And from here I can make sure all the dogs down on the street are behaving themselves as they walk by my home. And of course if they don't I yell at them real loud!!  Of course mom doesn't seem to appreciate my need to keep my street in under control!!

I will work on her about that.

WHERE'S WILLOW???

While out on a walk mom looked down and realized that I could easily disappear into this pile of leaves!  So she told me she would be sure to keep a close eye on me until all the leaves blow away in the wind. I am so happy about that!!

One of my new outdoor attire!!

How do you like this stupid bright shiny vest my mom put on me???
In this photo it looks like it is a bit small for my little body. Yes, I said 'little body'.
I guess it is obvious that at times the back end of me doesn't want to go where the front of me goes, but I promise it does eventually it does catch up!!

Little Willow is growing fast!

Little Willow has settled in very well. And as you can see she enjoys laying about in the sunshine.
She has learned to let us know when she needs to go outside and that makes life so much easier for all of us. She is such a good girl. She has learned to use the 'potty pads' but it appears she prefers to go outside. And of course we would rather take her outside too.
She is such a good puppy still sleeping all thru the night. In fact, I have to actually pull her out from the bedcovers to take her outside each morning. I think she would rather stay in bed with her Dad than go out into the cold rainy weather that early in the morning!  Can't blame her for that!!
