THE GARDEN WORK IS PROGRESSING

We have been working often in the garden area of our back yard.  It has been neglected for about 5 years so the Blackberry bush that was there had decided that it would take over the entire garden area..... all by it's self.
And I must say it was being quite successful at it...until we arrived on the scene!
The above photo was taken in November of last year.  So as you can imagine, the bush has grown quite a bit since I took this picture.
We spent many afternoons out in the garden cutting away parts of this giant bush.  We have more than enough scares to prove our work.  But the area is starting to look like a garden area again and I am excited to get the area plotted out for our spring garden.

Below is a photo of a few stalks that we chopped from the wild run away plant.
Okay the photo after this one can give you a better idea of the real size of the stalks from this crazy plant...

Yes, that's a dime to help show the actual size of the plant we have been fighting.  But we have finally won the battle!!!
The ugly, prickly plant is GONE!!!
Of course, Mistaya is very excited about all the new smells that are in the areas of the garden that she couldn't get to while the giant Blackberry bush was ruling the entire garden area.
There is nothing like Puppy Happiness!

  2. We have those giant blackberries too. We fight them all the time. When we first moved here we thought it was fun to pick the berries. Since I don't cook, that got old fast!

Keep fighting the good fight :)

  4. Hi Rae, Yes, Our home is starting to look like it is loved again. I swear I could hear the house let out a big "sigh" the other day just after I applied the last coat of primer on the upstairs craftroom! When it is all complete I will post a before and after picture to show you. And I think you will agree that the house probably really did make a "sigh" of relief because it looks so much better.

  6. Emma Rose, tell the Dutchess that we were the same way when we first arrived here. If you rememeber in one of my earlier posts M.O.M. even posted pictures of me eating the berries right from the bush just like M.O.D. did. But everytime we visit the wonderful veggie and fruit market not far from here we see beaatiful litte baskets full of blackberries ready to take home and eat. M.O.M. said one day..."From now on we will buy our berries from the market and enjoy them and let the market owners do all the work for us!" NO more scratches for us!!!

  10. Hey Madi...I didn't think to check to see if Jack was up on top of that giant stalk when we chopped it all down! Oh I hope he is safely home with his family by now.
